Sujeewa Kumari

Multi-Disciplinary Artist & Lecturer

About

Sujeewa Kumari Weerasinghe (b. 1971) is a highly accomplished Sri Lankan contemporary artist whose interdisciplinary practice spans drawing, painting, and mixed media. Her recent works engage deeply with de-realised memories drawn from history, tradition, and everyday life, forming an artistic synthesis of new cultural images. Her practice explores how personal and collective memory can be reimagined through visual language, opening dialogues between past and present, reality and fiction. Her works on paper fluidly combine physical and mental sensations to express poetic and emotional narratives.

In 2019, her unique vision was recognized internationally when she was selected as one of the Top 30 finalists for the prestigious Sovereign Asian Art Prize. Her works have been featured on significant national and international platforms across Asia and Europe.
