As an MBBS Doctor, Shanaka Kulathunga works at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital. At work, he may look like any other member of his profession, but he is a keen painter who has painted people and scenery from all parts of Sri Lanka. His passion for painting goes back to his childhood days. He enrolled at the Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts to study under Chandragupta Tenuwara and held two exhibitions at the Colombo Medical Faculty while studying there. In addition, he has taken part in the annual exhibitions of the George Keyt Foundation. His output is prolific and ranges from minute pen and ink drawings to vibrant acrylic portraits and landscapes. Not being confined to a studio, he paints from wherever he’s lodged on duty as a doctor.
