Dilantha Rajapaksha

Painter & Sculptor

Dilantha Rajapaksha (Born in Sri Lanka - 1983) is a prominent painter and sculptor whose works have been exhibited both nationally and in China. His unique portraits merge abstraction with realism, each of which conveys an "inner spirit." Rajapaksha's work is inspired by the textures of heritage and the rhythms of daily life. His pieces often reflect a deep respect for cultural symbolism, layered with modern interpretation.

He describes his compositions as containing many untold experiences and thoughts, which he endeavors to share with the world. He creates using acrylics and charcoal on canvas.

An artist who has a long history since 2003, he has continued till now with the Arts and Crafts field where he has exposed his works recently through notable milestones:

  • In 2014, he took part in "Sunsilk Glam and Shine - The Contemporary Art Exhibition" at Park Street.
  • In 2015, his work was featured in the 10th Anniversary Show of the University of Visual & Performing Arts held at the J.D.A. Perera Gallery, Horton Place, Colombo 07.
  • In 2016, he was part of the "Insight of China" exhibition, a group show featuring Sri Lankan artists, which was held at the Capital Library of Beijing, China.
  • In 2017, he exhibited again at the State Art and Sculpture Exhibition held at the J.D.A. Perera Gallery, Horton Place, Colombo 07.

Awards & Recognition

  • In 2009: Awarded 3rd Place in the Portrait category at the Annual Art & Craft Exhibition of The Ceylon Society of Arts, Colombo.
  • In 2010: Received a Special Merit Award and a 1st Place award, both in the Portrait category, at the same exhibition.
  • Between 2011 and 2012: Received Merit Awards for Sculpture and Composition at the State Art & Sculpture Festival, organized by the Arts Council of Sri Lanka.
  • Between 2011 and 2013: Awarded 3rd Place in Composition at the same festival.
  • In 2017: Received a Special Merit Award for Portrait at the State Art and Sculpture Exhibition Festival.

From 2011 to 2017, he also shared his knowledge by serving as a Visiting Lecturer at the Faculty of Visual Arts, University of the Visual & Performing Arts, located at 46 Horton Place, Colombo 07.
